COME HOME WOMEN’S COLLECTIVE
Support for women, and especially mothers in these modern times is essential if not critical for our mental, emotional and spiritual well-being. It’s how our mothers and their mothers and their mothers thrived (and perhaps survived) in motherhood. We are not meant to go this alone. We are not meant to be disconnected from our intuitive self. We are not meant to struggle and suffer in isolation. Beautiful women and mamas, we are meant to be powerful, vibrant, radiant and prosperous leaders. And we are meant to be conscious leaders in community.
Just by virtue of being a woman we already ARE leaders. The question is, how are we showing up? Are we operating from past fears and patterning, or are we being joyful, loving, creative and connected? Are we honouring the feminine and the masculine or are we condemning one or both? I know which camp I’ve been in for most of my life, and it did not serve anyone. For so long I didn’t know how to shift into the light- I was stuck in a sea of past conditioning and negative programming- most of which was not even mine.
Now more than ever women are being called to step into their power and grace of the divine feminine and to lead by example, action and word. It is in women’s group that we can create the lives we desire- one of our own design and not defaulted from our past. It is in women’s group that we cultivate a deep spiritual practice and intimacy with other powerful women to make this manifest. Our children are watching!
The Come Home Women’s Collective (CHWC) was founded by Come Home Co-Founder Sophia Duran-Cruz and Melissa Blyth. Founder of La Luna Mama. We are based in Victoria, B.C.
CHWC is an experiential in-person monthly membership where women gather to step into their power and grace of the divine feminine and lead by example, action and word. Through the power of Kundalini yoga technology as the foundation, we utilize yogic holistic health and beauty methods, conscious relationship and mindful parenting practices, along with a curated collection of hand-crafted Ecuadorian artisanal goods (Come Home-The Kundalini Collection) to up-level your leadership, elevate your life and COME HOME to the Truth of who you are.
Sophia and Melissa met in 2001 while attending the Business and Entrepreneurial Program at Royal Roads University. From the moment they laid eyes on one another they knew they were destined soul sisters and have been on a mission of love and Truth ever since. Through life’s trials and tribulations of birth, death, chronic health conditions, anxiety, depression, divorce, separation, and travels around the world- sometimes side-by-side, and often separated by great distances, these two women have remained allies and a source of deep support for one other. Finally living in the same city, Sophia and Melissa have now come together to offer a one-of-a-kind monthly experience to support your journey to COME HOME to your Truth and power.
COME HOME brand is a story of reunification and love. It begins with two Ecuadorian sisters, Monique and Sophia Duran who were adopted into a Canadian family in 1974 and estranged from their family of origin and beloved homeland. From a very early age co-founder Sophia felt a magnetic pull to come home to Ecuador and reunite with her estranged family. It wouldn’t be until 22 years later that she would first reunite with her mother, other sisters and brother, and another 24 years before she would form the deep connection to her family that she had longed for her entire life. With a deep reverence for her adoptive Canadian parents, she credits them with providing her and her sister with a foundation of unconditional love and stability, which enabled her to come home to Ecuador and ultimately, to herself.
*The Come Home Women's Collective is an extension of the Come Home brand of hand-crafted Ecuadorian alpaca and wool blankets, rugs, and other artisanal goods. Honouring ancient Ecuadorian traditions, craftspeople, and women weavers, Come Home supports artisans in remote areas and embraces culture and fair trade practices through its partnerships. Come Home brings artisanal goods to a global marketplace supporting Ecuadorian innovation, while creating social and economic impact.
Come Home is a grassroots business whose aesthetic is rooted in the country’s heritage and is inspired by nature. The Duran’s are driven by a passion to reclaim Ecuador’s cultures and weaving traditions, while supporting and sustaining traditional communities. They connect with their weavers directly and have longer range goals to work with extended families, co-ops and non-governmental organizations, while documenting travels and processes through journal and photography.
WHAT IS KUNDALINI YOGA
Kundalini yoga is a holistic practice that encompasses the mind, body and spirit. It combines the powerful healing tools of asana (yoga postures), pranayam (breathing techniques), meditation, and mantra (sound currents). It is not a religion, but rather an art, a science and a technology. Brought to the West by Yogi Bhajan in the 1960's, Kundalini combines meditation with yoga postures and sound currents, which form a kriya or “action”. Using a combination of movement, breath and sound these kriyas synergistically and adaptogenically work to shift the agility of your mind, body and energy- quickly.
WHY DO WE PRACTICE KUNDALINI YOGA?
The kriyas (movements) activate energy centres in the body to create positive physiological and mental responses literally 'rewiring' the neural pathways in the brain. By directly stimulating the pituitary, hypothalamus and pineal glands we short-circuit the stress response by sending positive and reinforcing messages to the adrenals, thyroid, etc. helping to balance hormones, mood, sleep, appetite, immune system, sex drive and digestion.
There are now hundreds of scientific studies citing how yoga and meditation produce life-changing positive physical and psychological results. Regular deep breathing and meditation not only change your blood chemistry, but also shift your brain chemistry to the point of reducing stress hormones- specifically cortisol. For those of us who have experienced both deep physical and emotional traumas, this is excellent news. Our neurobiology and biochemistry can be hacked!
Trauma refers to anything from accidents to adverse childhood experiences, including abandonment, abuse or attachment disruption with our parents when we were small. (Click here for more information on this) Bessel Van der Kolk, MD, world renown trauma expert says that "trauma is specifically an event that overwhelms the central nervous system, altering the way we process and recall memories. Trauma is not the story of something that happened back then. It is the current imprint of that pain, horror, and fear living inside people.” In his book The Body Keeps the Score, he states that “traumatized people chronically feel unsafe inside their bodies: The past is alive in the form of gnawing interior discomfort. Their bodies are constantly bombarded by visceral warning signs, and, in an attempt to control these processes, they often become expert at ignoring their gut feelings and in numbing awareness of what is played out inside. They learn to hide from their selves.”
And THIS is the power of Kundalini Yoga. Using the technology of mantra, kriyas and breath, we can re-write our past stories and create a new future. Science is finally documenting what yogi's have known for years- meditation heals the body, mind and soul. It also happens to be one of the best beauty rituals out there!
